Flush ADU Water Heater
Why it matters
Sediment buildup in the ADU water heater (separate from the main house) forces overheating, reduces output, and can cause catastrophic failure ($1200–1800 replacement).
Stop forgetting to do this.

How to do it

Wait 30 minutes for the heater to cool; turn off the cold water inlet
- 3
Open the drain valve at the bottom and attach a garden hose to direct water outside or to a floor drain
- 4
Open the nearest hot water tap to allow air in; drain until water runs clear (usually 30–60 seconds)
- 5
Close the drain valve, turn cold water back on, turn tap off, and restore power
