Test garage door auto-reverse
Why it matters
Auto-reverse is a life-safety feature. If it fails and a child, pet, or person is under the door during closing, the result can be fatal. The force-reversal test takes 60 seconds and should be done monthly.
Stop forgetting to do this.

How to do it
- 1
Place a 2×4 board flat on the garage floor in the path of the door.
- 2
Trigger the door to close.
- 3
When the door contacts the board, it should reverse within 2 seconds.
- 4
If it doesn't reverse, adjust the closing force on the opener (usually two adjustment screws) and retest.
- 5
If still failing, call a garage door professional.
