Run generator under load
Why it matters
Generators that sit idle develop stale fuel, corroded contacts, and seized parts. The ones that fail during power outages are almost always the ones that were never tested. Monthly exercising under load is the only way to know it will start when needed.
Stop forgetting to do this.
HomeOS generates a personalized maintenance schedule so you never miss another run generator under load.
How to do it
- 1
Start the generator according to the manual.
- 2
Let it warm up for 2 minutes.
- 3
Connect a load (a space heater or similar) that uses 50–75% of the generator's capacity.
- 4
Run for 20–30 minutes.
- 5
Check for unusual vibration, smoke, or smells.
- 6
Run until the fuel level is low, then refill with fresh fuel.
