Vents are the primary wildfire attic ignition path. Class A roofs fail when embers enter via soffit, foundation, or gable vents without 1/8-inch mesh.

How to do it

Locate all soffit vents on the eaves and underside of overhangs.

Check for 1/8-inch mesh screening on soffit, foundation, and gable vents.

Inspect screens for tears, corrosion, or missing sections.

If missing or damaged, remove old screening and install new 1/8-inch mesh.

Use stainless-steel hardware cloth or purpose-built ember-resistant screens.

Ensure mesh is firmly secured and covers the entire vent opening.
