How to do it
- 1
Start in the master bathroom; check around toilet, shower, and sink for black or green growth.
- 2
Inspect exhaust fan vents and ductwork for moisture buildup.
- 3
Move to other bathrooms and repeat the inspection.
- 4
Check the basement for water stains, discoloration, or fuzzy growth.
- 5
Look beneath basement windows and along sill plates for condensation or mold.
- 6
Inspect the attic (if accessible) for roof leaks, ice dam damage, and condensation.
- 7
Note location and extent of any mold found; take photos.
- 8
If mold covers more than 10 square feet, contact a mold remediation professional.
