How to do it
- 1
Climb a ladder and clear gutters and downspouts of all leaves, twigs, and sediment.
- 2
Use a garden hose to flush gutters; confirm water flows toward downspouts without pooling.
- 3
Visually inspect roof from ladder for missing or loose tiles, debris, or standing water; replace or repair as needed.
- 4
Follow each downspout to confirm water flows at least 5 feet away from foundation; extend with splash blocks or French drains if needed.
- 5
Check window wells, door sweeps, and other low entry points; seal cracks and install drain plugs if water collects.
- 6
Take photos of roof, gutters, and drainage for insurance documentation.
