Propane Tank Brush & Clearance Check
Why it matters
Overgrown vegetation around propane tanks can trap moisture, cause corrosion, and violate fire codes. Blocked access prevents safe inspections and emergency service. Code requires clear space.

How to do it
- 1
Walk around the propane tank and note any brush, vegetation, leaves, or stored items within 3 feet.
- 2
Trim back branches or shrubs; remove dead vegetation and accumulated leaves.
- 3
Mow grass around the tank base; ensure 3-foot clear perimeter on all sides.
- 4
Visually inspect the tank exterior for rust, dents, or corrosion; minor surface rust is normal.
- 5
Check that the filler cap and overfill relief valve are not obstructed or corroded.
- 6
During the next propane delivery, ask the driver to confirm the overfill protection device (OPD) is functioning correctly.
