Why it matters
A thin layer of dust and grime can reduce solar panel output by 10–25%. In dry climates, panels may need cleaning 2–3 times per year. In wetter climates, rain handles much of it.

How to do it

On a cool, overcast morning, use a garden hose from the ground to rinse the panels.

For stubborn grime, use a soft brush on an extension pole with mild soap.

Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasives, or high-pressure sprays that can damage the surface.

Never spray cold water on hot panels — thermal shock can crack them.
