Test well pressure tank air charge
Why it matters
A waterlogged tank causes the pump to start/stop rapidly, burning out a $1,500-$2,500 well pump in months.
Stop forgetting to do this.
Hearth generates a personalized maintenance schedule so you never miss another test well pressure tank air charge.
How to do it
- 1
Locate the air valve stem on top of the pressure tank.
- 2
Turn off the well pump breaker.
- 3
Attach a tire-pressure gauge to the air valve stem.
- 4
Read the air pressure (typically 28-48 psi depending on pump setting).
- 5
If water sprays out, the tank is waterlogged and needs replacement.
- 6
If pressure is low, add air with a bicycle pump or air compressor.
